Fiscal Sponsorship
Fiscal Sponsorship at FNC is based on two main goals – 1. Powerful positive impact on the most underserved of our communities, and 2. Customer Service.
There are few cities in our country with more creative people with a desire to use their talents for positive community change. Many are doing their work in the community, often funding it from their own pockets and from the occasional sympathetic friend.
Many immediately think “If I could get my non-profit 501(c)3 status, then I could get grants and raise more money for my project.” The timely process can take months, even as long as a year. Most have to foot the bill for a lawyer to assist with the process. But, there are some things to consider:

Many immediately think “If I could get my non-profit 501(c)3 status, then I could get grants and raise more money for my project.” The timely process can take months, even as long as a year. Most have to foot the bill for a lawyer to assist with the process. But, there are some things to consider:
- When the 501(c)3 determination arrives, it does not come with a check, but does come with many more responsibilities.
- Many funders want to see a project’s track record before funding. They often want to see proof of your financial stability. Many applications want to know what grants and amounts you have already received. Getting in the door as a new project can be difficult on your own.
- New non-profits, when tracked over a 5 year period, have the same success/failure rate of new small businesses. After 5 years, only around 45% are still functioning. Of those, many are only keeping their 501(c)3 active, but show no or very little income.
But, why Fiscal Sponsorship and why FNC?
At FNC, we are open to projects that are already established as well as projects that have not yet gotten off the ground. Many Fiscal Sponsorship agencies prefer already established, strong projects. One of the projects that entered Fiscal Sponsorship with FNC five years ago with only an idea has now achieved their 501(c)3 and will branch out on their own this year, after showing incredible impact in the region and with a budget of $1.2 million! We not only manage the fiscal side of projects, but when needed, we mentor projects on best practices of running a non-profit project. And, our customer service is modeled to be convenient for you, with quick turnaround on all requests.
We seek opportunities for collaboration. Often, we create introductions between projects when we see an opportunity for greater impact.
We provide you with two large databases of potential funders. Then, we will assist you in vetting those funders to find the ones that have the best opportunity for project funding. We provide experiential information on funders and review all grant applications prior to submittal so that we can work with the project for optimal application/proposal impact. We will help you grow your skills at proposal writing!
FNC also provides you with an incredible online platform for fundraising. From the site you can do fundraisers, annual campaigns, seek corporate sponsorships, sell or provide free tickets for your events, and even set up an online shop to sell merchandise to support your project! And, as a new feature, if you do not have your own website – the platform has a team that will build it for you – at no cost!
Fiscal Sponsorships also have the option to utilize the services of for-profit professionals for certain projects – at no cost! They can help with things such as board development, fundraising, annual campaigns, logo design, web design, and much more!
But, the main feature of Fiscal Sponsorship IS fiscal management. Our fiscal team, led by our CFO Adam Wilder, manage all of the funds for each project. You will be given access to an online document repository where each month you get a detailed report of your funds, including all disbursements and deposits. But, if needed, you can request such a report at any time. We handle your payments, payroll, benefits, reimbursements, purchases, and more. For projects that meet a certain funding threshold, we can provide debit cards for petty cash purchases that has an app allowing you to notify us of the purchase immediately. And, because under fiscal sponsorship you are working under our 501(c)3, you do not have to worry about audits and IRS reporting – that is all done by FNC Philly. Your time is freed up to work on making your project successful and impactful! Requests for each of these services are responded to within 1 business day.
Which brings us to customer service. Our CEO has always focused on excellent customer service throughout his career. He is a past recipient of the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) Jodi Spiegel Enhancement of Customer Service Award. We have built our Fiscal Sponsorship initiative on a foundation of sound fiscal and institutional practices and exemplary customer service. We have a dedicated email for Fiscal Sponsorship requests and questions, and our entire team receives it. It is quickly assigned and addressed. And, on the occasion that we do miss something, we are not afraid of owning our mistakes and making things right. We are constantly working on our internal systems to ensure we miss nothing and respond in the appropriate timeframe.
